In today’s smartphone society, we have more pictures than we know what to do with and are inundated with more ideas than time. I’m all about finding things to make my life easier. Since becoming a Mama, if I remember to brush my teeth, put on deodorant and slap on a little bit of makeup before I hit the ground running, it’s a good morning. I feel like I am constantly trying to get it all done and have accepted the fact that I just can’t do it all. I try to be present in the moment, but I also want to document both big and small moments for my family. Here are 6 effortless ways that I have found to help you document all of those special moments for your family:
1 SE– One Second Everyday. This is an AMAZING app that acts as a video diary. It is by far my favorite thing that we did to keep track of everyday moments during Quinn’s first year of life. You can upload videos and/or photos and can even take them and edit them within the app. You cut it down and edit a 1 second clip per video. I use the term “edit” loosely. It is super easy, just a few taps of a finger, which is why I love it. Quinn just turned 1 (which still doesn’t seem possible!) and within minutes, the app produced a 4 minute video of all of the video clips from the year. It is so special to look back and see the everyday activities, as well as the big moments. I LOVE pictures, but there is something about live video, especially when looking back and seeing Quinn with loved ones such as my Paps (Grandpa) who passed away shortly after she was born. Priceless. Don’t stress if you don’t do it daily. When Quinn was super little, I was religious about it but then eventually life happened. 1 second a day quickly became a few seconds a week, but it was just as special and seemed much more manageable and realistic for me, which is what I needed!
Qeepsake– This is an effortless, stress-free way to keep track of baby’s milestones. It texts you questions (you can manage the frequency) about your baby. It’s so convenient- you just text back whenever you have time. Sometimes I answer immediately, other times it’s days later. I was on a waiting list for a few months because Qeepsake was growing so quickly. It was well worth the wait though! I chose the Qeepsake Plus plan, which texts two questions a day and allows me to text pictures along with my answers. If you have more than one child, you can seamlessly manage multiple journals, one for each child. Qeepsake also offers an option to create a book from your journal entries whenever you would like. The best part is that the books are expandable, allowing you to order more pages and grow the book with your child.
Spearmint Memory Book – If you have not discovered the goodness that is Spearmint, get on board! Their products are on point! I received this memory book as a baby shower gift. To this day, it is one of my favorite gifts. They offer several adorable designs. I love that it focuses on the milestones and has extra pages at the end to allow for a little creativity. I used to scrapbook but now just don’t have the time that I used to. This was a perfect way to incorporate the traditional baby book, without putting too much pressure or stress on myself to document everything or create something from scratch. Blinkbox– I discovered Blinkbox Collection through Instagram (@blinkbloxcollection) and then proceeded to stalk them down at a local craft fair (yes, I was THAT girl!). The pages have short but meaningful prompts to help you document the most important details of life’s milestones. They have a collection for any and everything you can think of: anniversaries, weddings, birthdays, school years, travel and more! Guys, this is my new go-to for presents, especially for showers (baby and wedding). If you follow them on Insta, you will find out when they have specials. For example, they just had a BOGO offer (buy one, get one 1/2 off!), so I bought 3 and got one for FREE! Plus, check out this adorable presentation! This company was founded in Columbus, OH, so you can smile knowing that you are supporting a small, local business as well!
Chatbooks– When I say this is the easiest photo book you can make, I mean it. You can simply link your social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook) and can let it auto populate pictures, along with the captions that you wrote when you initially posted the picture. 30 seconds is all it has to take! If you are a bit more detail oriented like me and don’t want your pictures in a random order, you can hand select the pictures and where they go in the book. You can make it as quick and easy or as in depth as you want. For as little as $8 you can have a photo book on your doorstep in days. When you sign up, you can get your first book FREE with the code CBLOVE. Just be aware that you will automatically be signed up for a monthly subscription in order to take advantage of this deal. I just canceled mine after I created my “freebie” and then order as I see fit, rather than monthly. Up until now, there was only one option for size (6 in. x 6 in.), but they just announced last week that you can order 8 x 8 books as well and can now do pull page images!
E-mail– Before Quinn was born, we set up an e-mail account for her through g-mail. We shared the e-mail address with friends and family and asked them to write her whenever they felt led to do so. We send her periodic e-mails, particularly about milestones or special events. We just celebrated her first birthday and asked friends and family to e-mail her and tell her about their favorite memory, what they love about her, etc. I can’t wait to give her access to her e-mail account when she graduates. My hope is that she will see how truly loved she is and has been since even before she took her first breath!
I could go on and on, but these are ideas that I felt were sustainable and as effortless as possible, so pick and choose and find what works for you and your family. But no matter what you do, have fun and make memories!
