Sweet Girl, it seems like just yesterday that we were heading to the hospital to meet you for the very first time. Fast forward nearly three years and we are less than 24 hours away from becoming a family of four as we prepare to welcome your sister into the world.
Life is about to change, for all of us.
Over the past 33 months, you have taught me more about myself than I could have ever imagined. The day you were born, I knew I loved you more than I had even fathomed. Instantly my heart grew and I knew that life would never be the same.
You may not know it, but one day your Daddy and I will get to tell you all about how you came at the perfect time. You were our calm before the storm and you gave us courage and strength in a hard, hard season.
God has and continues to use you in huge ways to make me a better wife, a better Mama, a better friend and a better follower of Jesus. You remind me to stop and enjoy the little things, to laugh with reckless abandon, to take risks and to love well.
As our time as a family of three comes to a close, I can’t help but to reflect on the endless memories that we have made. This chapter hasn’t always been easy, but boy has it been so sweet! Though there has been a pretty sizable learning curve for your Daddy and I as we navigate this whole parenting thing, you have been patient and have made this journey a true joy.
After watching your excitement grow (right along with my belly) over the past months, I can’t help but smile knowing what an amazing big sister you will be. You talk to the baby, kiss Mama’s belly and constantly practice rocking and playing with your baby dolls. You’re ready for this!
I know we will have our fair share of hard days. Days where we miss the simplicity of you being the one and only, days where we are are tired and perhaps in tears. I know it won’t always be glamorous, but I am confident that we will rise to the challenge.
You see, sisters are the best. There is something special about the bond that sisters share. As the years pass, my prayer is that your love for your sister only grows with time. She will be one of your biggest fans, greatest cheerleaders and a dependable playmate; just give it some time.
No matter what, I want you to know that my love for you is no less than it was yesterday. God gives us the capacity to love and I pray that you always feel as loved and as seen as you truly are, not just by your Daddy and I, but by your heavenly Father.
I am so proud to call you my daughter and I can not wait to watch you take on the role of Big Sister!
