I love pictures. I take them like it’s my job and display them around my house like my life depends on it. There is something so special about documenting moments in time. Moments that I am sure to look back at with fondness for decades to come.
When I was pregnant with my first daughter, I booked a newborn photo shoot with a friend who is an amazing photographer. We went to her home studio for the shoot. The room was 90 + degrees in order for the baby to be warm, sleepy and somewhat compliant. That meant that my postpartum self was sweating bullets. I remember attempting to nurse in the dress that I wore. Breastfeeding was new and I was stressed to say the least. Somehow, while trying to feed her in between shots, I managed to break the strap of my dress. In case I wasn’t already feeling frumpy and unattractive…
The result included some very cute pictures of a naked newborn, a stressed, sweaty and tired Mommy and a Daddy who was trying to hold it together so that at least 1 of the 3 of us wasn’t crying.
Though I love the pictures, it makes me laugh when I think about how much work went into getting them. So with our second daughter, you can understand why I was all over it when my friend Megh suggested she come to us to take newborn pictures for our second daughter.
What is a FRESH 48 Photo Session?
Megh was the first to enlighten me on this whole “Fresh 48” photo session concept. The idea is that a photographer comes to the hospital (don’t worry – not for labor and delivery…I’m not all about that life) within 48 hours after the baby is born…hence the “fresh 48”. The pictures are taken in your hospital room and can include siblings and significant others as well.
She is an actual miracle worker. She came to the hospital just over 24 hours after my daughter was born via c-section. I had barely mustered up the energy to shower, was still in pajamas, hadn’t done my hair and had hardly moved from the hospital bed and yet Megh took some of my favorite pictures of all time of our sweet new family of FOUR!
I am so thankful for how stress-free and natural the whole process was. I wish I had known about this when I has Quinn. I will forever be thankful for the authenticity behind these sweet photos of Hadley being welcomed into our family!
Booking Your Own Fresh 48
If you live in Columbus (or really anywhere in Ohio) and are expecting a baby, stop what you’re doing and contact my girl Megh to book your Fresh 48 photo session. She requests 6 weeks notice but obviously there is no way to know exactly what day your little one will arrive (in most cases) so she will work with you when the baby arrives to set up the exact day and time.
Use the code MYLIFEINTHEBLINK for 10% off your photo session!
